This is our first Breville espresso machine. It replaced a more expensive Italian one we received second hand many years ago. My first impressions are that it warms up really fast and steams magnificently. I'm finally able to get the micro foam just right and do my own latte art, whereas on the previous machine I had to leave that to my barista wife. It seems to need a finer grind in order to get crema on the shots, but now that we have that figured out we're enjoying some great afternoon flat whites. My only current complaint is that knocking the used espresso out of the portafilter almost always results in the basket falling out, and more often that not I need to scoop the old shot out with a plastic spoon or something. Also the machine we ordered didn't come with a water filter. I've since ordered a new one on Amazon for $25. In my mind these are small complaints for a machine that heats up near instantly and makes us great coffee.
Our grinder (from a separate seller) has yet to arrive so we can't comment on the finer points of coffee making with this machine, plus we are newbie kooks in this coffee caper. What I can say is that the machine arrived quickly, is in excellent condition, and is a level above my kids' machines with integrated grinders. The independent steam and hot water is great, and when i had a query the Average Joe customer support proved excellent as well. I get a terrific machine plus a very good grinder for the cost of the machine alone. Couldn't be happier.
After so much research I knew I wanted this machine. I wanted to buy a good machine that make good quality barista coffee at home but not one of those digital ones that do everything for you because I enjoy the actual process of making the coffee like the grinding, the tampering, the frothing…
When I saw the price tag I noticed I could not stretch my budget over 1k then I found Average Joes and had the best of 2 worlds a great machine on a budget and with the warranty too so it was a no brainer. If you want top of the range that is still a manual machine this is the one you want :)
